Experts note having sufficient home insurance coverage is a key to making it through a disaster.
Wildfires are among the calamities that can befall a homeowner, and the Insurance Information Institute is reminding consumers to be prepared, regardless of what state they live in. An area west of Boulder, Colorado, was recently plagued by this type of disaster, which usually affects California.
III media relations vice president Michael Barry said people should have enough home insurance to cover the cost of rebuilding their home and replacing their possessions.
“Too many policyholders are unfamiliar with what is in their policy until they have to file a claim, and by then it is too late to purchase the right amount of financial protection,” Barry said.
Although wildfires may lead to a home’s destruction, there are simpler ways for a blaze to start.

Gocompare.com is to target the UK home insurance market with a new TV advert featuring fictional opera singer, Gio Compario, played by Wynne Evans.
The campaign, which launches on September 18th, across all UK commercial TV channels, features two archaeological explorers who enter an ancient Egyptian burial chamber.
They then translate hieroglyphics that say “check out your home insurance”, at which point Gio emerges from a sarcophagus.
Recorded in South Africa earlier this year, the advert is part of a series parodying famous films or screen genres.
Since he was first introduced in August 2009, Gio been credited with driving a 44% increase in quote volumes for Gocompare.com.

Medicare supplement insurance is something most everyone on medicare should own. These policies are sold by private insurers and provide what is know as gap coverage. This means this supplemental insurance fills in the gaps created by medicare. At times these gaps can be minor, almost to the point of being simply annoying, however at other times these gaps can result in a serious financial setback for those who are unprepared for the extra expense. This is where the value for supplemental insurance is created, and it is why no one on medicare should be without it.
Once retirement age arrives, there is no excuse for not being prepared.

Choosing to pay a higher excess in return for cheaper home insurance premiums might be false economy, according to moneysupermermarket.com. Home insurance customers often choose to pay a higher excess if they have to make a claim in order to reduce the initial cost of their home insurance policy, but research from the comparison website shows that this is not always a guaranteed money saver. Through its research into excess levels, from £0 to £500, moneysupermarket found that overall, homeowners who opt to pay £500 excess will see a 25 per cent reduction in the annual cost of their home insurance premiums – an average of £56. Unselfish pet owners would put the health of their four legged friends before their own, with more pets than people having insurance. Research from Tesco has found that more pet-owning Brits have pet insurance in place than health insurance, with 46 per cent insuring their pet compared to 35 per cent who insure their own health. Some devoted pet owners said that they would even cancel their own health insurance policy if they needed the money to pay vet bills, while others would give up gym memberships, nights out, or alcohol and cigarettes. A third of pet owners said they would cancel their annual holiday if their pet become ill, so that they could afford to pay the vets bills, and a quarter are willing to get into debt in order to pay for treatment for their pet.
