New technology disables cell phones while driving

Texting while driving is both an expensive and dangerous habit that can lead to higher auto insurance rates for all consumers and roadways that are less safe.

Given their prevalent use among teenagers, mobile devices may present an even greater temptation while they are behind the wheel. However, a company recently announced it has released a new product that may help prevent young people from using a cell phone while driving.

TxTStopper is a device that can be installed in a vehicle that disables cell phone use while a car is in drive. The new technology comes with no fee other than the initial cost of buying it.

“Personal pledges and national campaigns to stop texting, talking and emailing while driving are laudable; the reality is that we are so dialed in to communicating and multi-tasking constantly, unless the phone is left at home, it’s going to be used while driving,” a spokesperson with the company said.

Drivers being distracted by devices have become enough of an issue that a number of states have banned the practice. Furthermore, the federal government has taken some of its own steps to eliminate the habit among its employees.
